In this blog post I will write a PioSOLVER review and answer the following questions:
I have been working with PioSolver since the software was initially released. I have extensive experience using all features of the software and working with different students. I provide pre made game trees that can be imported containing GTO preflop ranges. I advise on all of the features of the software and how to optimise study through the use of all the features, node locking, help sheets and 2 hours of contact time in my course. I frequently work with online players or live players looking to study effectively and save time.
My Advanced PioSOLVER Course
I have created an advanced PioSOLVER course suitable and adaptable for all poker players looking to unlock the potential of the software and fast track their learning.

What is Piosolver?
PioSolver is a very fast, fully functional GTO solver. The aim of this poker software is to allow poker players to study gto poker strategy and learn game theory optimal strategies for no limit holdem.
Piosolver as an iterative gto poker solver. The user enters all the variables (arbitrary ranges, stack sizes, bet sizes, etc) for a heads up poker situation and creates a game tree. Piosolver can then solve and output the strategy in visual format. The user will also have access to a huge array of tools and functionality to analyse and understand a poker situation.
Key Features of PioSOLVER
I go into detail on all of these functions in my Advanced PioSOLVER Course which includes my PioSOLVER pack, preflop ranges and 2 hours of contact time
Key Questions that Piosolver can Answer
What are the biggest mistakes poker players make when studying with Piosolver?
How to study with PioSOLVER
Step 1: Create a game tree
input preflop ranges, stack sizes and bet sizes. Adjust other tree settings such as all in threshold and maximum number of actions on each street. For more info on creating a game tree you can check out my youtube series.
Step 2: Estimate tree size, build tree and solve.
After you have clicked build tree and “Go” the solver will begin. Once complete you are now ready to learn gto poker from piosolver.
Step 3: Analyse the hand
The postflop browser will visually display the solution and allow you to view the different “nodes” of the hand. A node is a decision point in the hand and by navigating through the game tree you can see what the optimal strategy looks like at all decision points in the hand. You also have access to advanced tools such as aggregation reports and range explorer. I go into detail about these on my free youtube series.
How to study with PioSOLVER
There are two key things to understand when studying with PioSOLVER. First is that the solver only provides a strategic output based on the variables that you input. Second is that it outputs very complex strategies. This means that to study effectively with PioSOLVER you need to build accurate models and study them in a way that allows you to take actionable strategic advice onto the poker table.
Generally speaking these are the stages
PioSOLVER Node Locking
One of the most useful features of PioSOLVER is node locking. This allows you to make changes to the strategy and then re run the simulation to model for a scenario where your opponents play differently from the solver. An example might be that you think your opponent does not bluff as much as the solver in a river situation. You could therefore perform a node lock and then outline the specific calling range you need to call against an opponent that is bluffing less often.
There are currently 4 different piosolver licences that can be purchased on their store, you can upgrade your licence at any time
Piosolver Free - $0 – Try the software for free
Piosolver Basic - $249 – For aspiring poker players learning game theory strategies
Piosolver Pro - $475 – Version of choice for most small-mid stakes players. Fully scriptable
Piosolver Edge - $1099 – For high stakes players who like to have a bit more. Preflop solutions.
The free version of PioSolver has a surprisingly large amount of functionality however it does not allow the calculation of flop solutions which is a key feature of all other versions. I would recommend trying out the free version before upgrading. Piosolver Basic allows the calculation of flop situations and full software functionality, but with a few limitations. You are only able to use up to 4 CPU threads (reducing solver speed), there is just 1 computer activation and the software is not scriptable. Pio Pro is fully scriptable, meaning that you can leave it running on a range of flops whilst you are away from the computer and return to the results. It also uses up to 16 CPU threads and allows for 2 activations. Piosolver edge is the premium product. It still allows for 2 activations but has unlimited CPU capacity and crucially the preflop solver, which allows the calculation of GTO preflop strategies.
To understand more about the differences in the software, you can visit the piosolver website here.
Piosolver Computer Requirements
The team at piosolver have been great with bringing out updates to the software to increase solving speed, but from my experience faster CPUs still yield significantly faster solving times. After speaking with the development team I can confirm that the solving speed should scale linearly following the upgrade of a processor. So you should be able to use benchmarking to predict increases in performance following a hardware upgrade. If you want exceptionally fast solving times then read below on Pio Edge and using a server.
From my experience its fine to solve to 0.5% exploitability, this can be achieved quickly for most trees on a good computer. I have written some example solving times below using my i7 770k processor and 32GB RAM.
Piosolver Basic only solves turn and river situations and has a limitation of 4 CPU threads. Due to the much smaller game tree sizes much less computing power is required than the other versions so you should be fine trialling it with even a low-grade desktop or laptop. However, if you are running a fast PC then you would see much faster solving speeds on the paid versions as most decent computers have more than 4 CPU threads. It’s free so give it a try!
RAM required for Piosolver
If you are less ambitious than Edge and looking to use the solver for postflop solving only, then I would recommend at least 6GB of RAM, although you can certainly easily build trees such as 3-bet pots on as little as 4GB of ram, as these trees are significantly smaller. A tree of big blind vs button with 1 betsize on the flop and 2 on each of the turn and river is around 2GB for a single raised pot and 1GB for a 3-Bet pot, but of course you still need some RAM leftover after building the tree for everything to run smoothly. After discussing this with the developer I can confirm that CPU is the limiting factor of the solver, not RAM. As long as you have enough RAM to build the tree in and some extra for the system to operate smoothly then you will be fine. If,however, you want to solve preflop trees then a large amount of RAM is required, so read below.
As can be seen above, different versions of piosolver have the ability to utilise differing amounts of CPU power. If you are looking to build preflop trees using Edge you will need 64GB of RAM. This is only for serious players and if you want to buy a set of Piosolver generated preflop ranges they are included in my Piosolver packs shown in this article. Building a computer with this much RAM is pricey. A great alternative for players looking to solve preflop trees is to hire a server and run piosolver on there with the huge amount of computing power that can be leveraged. I have used amazon web services for this in the past and it was fantastic. This is the best way to fully utilise the Edge version of the software as there will be a hefty price tag on a computer that can utilise more than the 16 CPU threads that the Pro version can and have 64GB of RAM.
This is the version of choice for many aspiring poker players and uses up to 16 CPU cores which is more than the vast majority of even high end desktop computers. If you are looking to solve situations quickly, multiple different board textures and use a variety of advanced tools then this is the version for you. After the RAM requirements above, you will be wanting to know how much CPU power is required. I would recommend getting an i7 processor and as you increase your spend the performance on piosolver will increase linearly with the benchmarking performance of the processor ( confirmed with developers). I think it’s worth noting at this point that if you email the Pio support team they are very helpful with system requirements and optimisation. You can still run Pio Pro on a decent i5 processor such as an i5-4670k and you can utilise the 16 threads instead of the maximum of 4 on the Basic version
I am running Pio Pro on an Intel Core i7-7700 CPU @ 3.6 GHz with 32Gb of RAM.
Here are a couple of results:
1 GB 3-Bet pot tree solved to 0.5% exploitability – 119 seconds
2.2 GB Single raised pot tree solved to 0.5% exploitability : 336 seconds

TimeMojo is a poker utility tool that helps you make accurate timing tells on players. It includes a timing tell HUD so you always have timing information available on every player. The software also allows you to randomize your own timings so your opponents won’t have these timing tells on you. It is a fantastic piece of poker software and a brilliant poker tool.
Note that TimeMojo is only compatible with Pokerstars.
Timing tell studies by WatchMojo over a large sample (100000 hands) at 500NL Zoom show that even the best players have timing tells.
Using TimeMojo can help you make better decisions on which spots to 3bet/4bet, and thereby improve your winrate. There’s a free 7 day trial available on the TimeMojo website, so feel free to try it out. If you like the program, please consider buying it using our affiliate link.
TimeMojo features a small HUD, which shows the timing of the last action taken by your opponent.
When you hover over/click this box, a popup will show which shows the player’s average timings for each action taken.
This way, you don’t have to take notes on these timing tells: simply check the popup to determine if your opponent has a timing tell.
The HUD will automatically save hands, including timings at every action, so you can review your hands, timings included.
TimeMojo also has a timing randomizer, so you can eliminate your own timing tells. This function will delay your action by a random amount of time. The delay amount will show up next to your bet box.
You can even use different randomizer settings for different streets.
Change HUD color based on timing
You can input timing ranges which will change the color of villain’s HUD box, depending on how long the timing before villain’s action was. This way, you can utilize your timing tells with one glance at the HUD box.
TimeMojo has different licenses available depending on the stakes you are playing.
The microstakes version costs 20$ and works up to 10NL cash games and 7$ BI tournament tables.
The mid stakes version costs 40$ and works up to 50NL cash games and 15$ BI tournament tables.
The full version costs 60$ and works for all stakes.
You can upgrade your license if you’re considering moving up stakes. Upgrading doesn’t cost you extra money, you pay the price difference between your version and the version you’re upgrading to.

Converting chips to BB
A function that is especially great for people playing tournaments. You will never have to deduce the number of big blinds your stack is worth again, which saves you heaps of time. Also convenient for cash game players, f.e. when you play multiple stakes at the same time, or when you are moving up stakes and don’t want to have the added pressure of seeing bigger amounts of money on your screen.
Auto clicking various pop-ups and boxes
There’s various pop-up boxes that can hinder you when playing on PokerStars, like the “Seat available” pop-up or a “Tournament registration confirmed” pop-up. StarsHelper can automatically click these pop-ups for you, so you can spend your time worrying about more important decisions. You can also let StarsHelper sit you out when certain conditions are met, f.e. when your time bank goes below a threshold or when your stack exceeds a certain BB amount and you don’t feel comfortable playing deep stacked.
Automatic bet sizing
By inputting certain parameters, StarsHelper can automatically input your bet amount for an open, 3bet, 4bet and flop, turn and river bets for you. You’re even able to input different 3bet and 4bet sizing’s for in position and out of position. The software can also consider limpers and callers into the equation, and change your opening/3bet sizing depending on the amount of limpers/callers behind. Inputting raise parameters is also a possibility. If you purchase using our affiliate link, you’ll get all of Iain’s bet sizings for free.
The StarsHelper HUD has various features that can complement a standard HUD like PT4/HM2. It can show you various percentages and odds, like pot odds, SPR, effective stack sizes, villain’s calling odds, your stack size after a bet, effective stack sizes after your bet, and so on. The HUD also adds an extra bet box, which lets you input a bet sizing in Big Blinds. StarsHelper will then automatically convert the amount of BB to $ and input it in the bet box. There are many, many more HUD options, so check out the full program or go to the StarsHelper site if you want to learn more.
This feature makes it easier to see what the action is at a table with just one glance. There’s a lot of options available: you can give table frames a different color based on the pot size, number of players in the hand, your action, your position, or your time bank value. Like mentioned earlier, you can also give tables different colors based on the type of table (cash or tournament) or based on your stack size (especially handy in tournaments). For the full list of options, see the StarsHelper website.
Pokerstars lets you use hotkeys for almost all commands but a few. StarsHelper hotkeys are there to fill in the gaps. You can set hotkeys for switching between chips and #BB, incrementing or decrementing bets, switching between StarsHelper profiles, closing a table, and more. Once again, check out the full program or the StarsHelper website to see all the options available.
Position Template and auto positioning tables
Position template allows you to show the position of a player at f.e. where you’d normally see a player’s avatar displayed. StarsHelper also enables you to automatically position your tables depending on how many tables you play, so you don’t have to reposition them yourself.
As stated earlier, if you purchase StarsHelper using our affiliate link and send an e-mail to Iain, you’ll get Iain’s settings and bet sizing’s sent to you for free. Click here to purchase StarsHelper using our affiliate link.
